American Legion Eligibility:
During one of the periods listed below you must have served on "ACTIVE DUTY".
The Congress of the United States determines eligibility for membership
in the American Legion. The requirement is to have served in
one of the Armed Forces during certain dates at which the United
States was at war and to be honorably discharged from that branch
of service. Membership eligibility periods are as follows:
- April 6, 1917 – Nov. 11, 1918 World War I
- Dec. 7, 1941 – Dec. 31, 1946 World War II
- June 25, 1950 – Jan. 31, 1955 Korea
- Feb. 28, 1961 – May 7, 1975 Vietnam
- Aug. 24, 1982 – July 31, 1984 Grenada/Lebanon
- Dec. 20, 1989 – Jan. 31, 1990 Panama
- Aug. 2, 1990 – Cessation of hostilities as
determined by Congress (Persian Gulf)
Eligibility for Ladies Auxillary - Sons of the American Legion:
Affiliated with the Post are our Ladies Auxiliary and the Sons
of the American Legion Squadron. Without the help of our Auxiliary,
our Post would not be what it is today. Their hard work and support
has been felt throughout our Post history. Eligibility in the
Auxiliary is to be a descendant of, sister, mother or wife of
a living Legion member, or a deceased veteran who would have
been eligible for Legion membership. Eligibility for the Sons
of the American Legion is to be a male descendant of a living
Legion member or a deceased veteran who would have been eligible
for Legion membership.
